The bar wasn't full...yet, but it was early in the day. The sun hadn't even fallen below the horizon yet and people were still just getting off work or out of school or whatever responsible people did. Opening the door to the windowless building, Max stepped inside, giving a quick wave to the 'guard', if you could call him that. More like a watcher really, not much went on that required interference.
Walking up to the bar, Max sat down, his hand coming down hard on the bar to announce his presence to the bartender. It was Matt today, though Max already knew that. Nothing changed in a small town, and certainly not your working hours. From the worn sneakers to the blue jeans and slightly wrinkled black t-shirt, Max was just as unchanging as everything else. However, today, a hint of a beard began to show on his chin, replacing the normally clean-shaven face, a clear sign that he hadn't slept in his own bed the previous night, or any comfortable bed for that matter.
"How's it going Matt? Tell me, when are they going to start putting attractive bartenders in this place?" Max's sense of humor was sarcastic and often leaned towards the offensive, though most people were used to it.

In his definition of the word, Matt’s day was uneventful. It began on a rough note of an important acting class first thing in the morning at eight am, an ungodly hour to have school, really. He felt somewhat blessed that he was no longer in high school, but he wished like no tomorrow that he hadn’t waited so long to sign up for that class because the later ones had filled right up. Still, the way it was now he could just sleep from noon to five and then turn up to work and that seemed to pan out for him well enough. He showed up a tad late to his shift today, earning a stern but loose warning once again from his boss. Really, it was such a common occurrence that he was late that sometimes he wouldn’t even get bagged on for it. It wasn’t like replacing him would be easy, and he was a town favorite – at least, that was how he looked at it. If he went, so would customers. In the back room he took a swig of vodka, preparing himself for the night ahead of him – true and complete boringness. It was almost a disappointment that people didn’t ever get violent in his pub, as he liked to call it, though he was nowhere near a management position as far as ranks went.
Matt walked into position right on cue of one his regulars slamming his obnoxious hand on the bar, a sight that made him grin. Perhaps tonight wouldn’t be entirely uneventful, or he’d at the very least have someone to shit around with. He grinned at him, coming forth and leaning his weight on the bar, his forearms resting on the wooden surface. “I hear the attractive workers require equally beautiful customers, so it looks like you’re shit out of luck,” he joked, his voice a thick, Irish accent as per normal. He didn’t mind the crude or offensive humor from Max, as it was that he tended to dish that sort of thing at people as well – they were the same in a positive way… most of the time. "What can I get for ya, pretty boy?"

Max and Matt were like fire and gasoline, put them together and shit turned bad...fast. Not that Matt really stood by Max's side through all of Max's antics, but Matt was a good enough friend at least. Truthfully, Max only had one true partner in crime, and that dynamic duo was trouble everywhere they went. Matt, however, was not Max's other half.
"Pretty boy? I knew ya liked blue eyes man, but don't be lookin' at me that way. It's hard enough to restrain Cassie." Max's arrogance was as legendary as his 'pranks' at times, though he meant it all in good fun. Cassie was hardly all over him, but that didn't stop Max was joking. There were other guys around town who tried to be a bad ass, but in reality, while Max was actually doing the bad deeds and ended up in a holding cell, the other guys were just being assholes to women. That was the biggest thing that kept Max standing out, regardless of his nature, he never offended women. Broke a few hearts maybe, but that was nothing compared to others.
"Start me off with a rum and coke? Strong. I need something to get the cell food out of my mouth. Parents found out I talked my way into their deposit box, called the sheriff...again."
